Running out of storage on your Gmail account? If you are close to maxing out your free 7GB of storage, you can now upgrade your storage quota all the way up to 16TB. For most users 7GB is plenty, but if you’re a real power user (or surrounded by people who do not understand that you do not email 25MB Power Point-files), an upgrade to 20GB might be interesting, which is the default quota for Google Apps Premier.
The pricing for these upgrades are really reasonable. It is also a great way for Google to bring in extra revenue for Gmail. While having extra space is great, there was nothing mentioned about changes in the sending policy or bandwidth caps. Also, considering the maximum attachment size in Gmail is 25MB, that would mean that you would with a 1TB quota store 20,480 emails with each a 25MB attachment or 327,680 emails with 16TB quota.
Here’s the full list of prices.
- 20GB, $5 per year
- 80GB, $20 per year
- 200GB, $50 per year
- 400GB, $100 per year
- 1TB, $256 per year
- 2TB, $512 per year
- 4TB, $1,024 per year
- 8TB, $2,048 per year
- 16TB, $4,096 per year
(Did you notice that prices from 1TB and up are all powers of 2?)
The upgrades are available today. To upgrade your account, just visit this page. Google Apps Standard accounts does not appear to be eligible for this upgrade though.
