We’re all about email. We try the latest email clients, the latest services and the latest email servers. At the same time, we know you’re on a busy schedule. Because of this, we’ve put to together a few handy downloads that makes it easier for you to get hands on various email tools and solutions.
Virtual Appliances
The intention with this section is to create virtual appliances out of popular email solutions. Please note that these appliances are not intended for production use. The appliances were created on VMware Server 2 but should be able to run on any recent version of VMware.
Horde Groupware
While its might not look as sexy as other groupware alternatives, such as Scalix, it is a whole lot lighter both in terms of server load and dependencies. Horde Groupware is entirely written in PHP (or rather the underlaying components that adds up to the groupware) and it loads really fast. It offers the basic functionality of a groupware, such as a webmail, calendar and contacts, including shared contacts and calendar.
Horde is able to connect to most IMAP servers as a backend, but in this appliance, we’ve used Dovecot. As for the MTA, we’ve used Postfix.
Open-Xchange
Open-Xchange an advanced web-based collaboration software with calendar, contacts and syncing options. Contrary to Scalix and Zimbra, it is not bundled with an IMAP/POP3/SMTP server. Instead, it is intended to be connected with your existing email infrastructure.
For this appliance though, we have installed and configured Dovecot to enable you to use the email section.
Scalix
Scalix comes with all features as you expect from a complete collaboration suit, including an advanced webmail and support for IMAP and POP3. In addition to the normal collaboration features, Scalix also features more advanced features such as replication and failover.
Zarafa
Zarafa is pretty much the closest you will ever get to an Exchange replacement. It’s obvious that this is the primary goal of the software, as it even offers the same look and feel of Outlook Web Access (OWA).
In addition to offer the basic collaboration features, Zarafa also offers Active Sync (via Z-push) and integration with Blackberry Enterprise Server.
Zimbra
Zimbra is a popular web-based collaboration software, complete with email, shared contacts and calendar.
Want to take Zimbra for a spin on your local machine or server? We have created a Zimbra Appliance that allows you to get up and running with a Zimbra server in no-time.
