About the Virtual Appliance
This virtual appliance/machine includes a full installation of the popular email collaboration software Open-Xchange. In addition to Open-Xchange, we’ve also installed Dovecot, as Open-Xchange is not bundled with any IMAP/POP3 server. We’ve also installed Joe (a simple text editor) and VMware Tools.
The appliance was installed using Open-Xchange official guideline.
We strongly discourage you against using this appliance in production. It is intended to be a simple turn-key solution for users and administrators who want to take a closer look at Open-Xchange without having to spend time on configuring it.
The virtual appliance was created with VMware Server 2, but should work in most recent VMware applications, such as VMware Fusion, VMware Player and VMware Workstation.
About Open-Xchange

Modifying Network Settings
Updating the network settings is easy.
Just run:
$ system-config-network
Modify the network settings according to your needs.
Adding a user
Since the Dovecot is not integrated with Open-Xchange, we need to create two users: one for Dovecot and one for Open-Xchange. This is how you do it. Replace ‘new-user’ with your user.
Create a local user (required for Dovecot):
$ adduser -m -s /bin/false new-user
$ passwd new-user
Create the Open-Xchange user:
$ /opt/open-xchange/sbin/createuser -c 1 -A oxadmin -P oxpassword -u new-user -d "Test User" -g Test -s User -p oxpassword -e testuser@example.com --imaplogin new-user --imapserver 127.0.0.1 --smtpserver 127.0.0.1
