About the Virtual Appliance
This virtual appliance/machine includes a full installation of the popular email collaboration software Scalix. The only two applications installed in addition to Scalix and its required components is Joe (a simple text editor) and VMware Tools.
We strongly discourage you against using this appliance in production. It is intended to be a simple turn-key solution for users and administrators who want to take a closer look at Scalix without having to spend time on configuring it.
The virtual appliance was created with VMware Server 2, but should work in most recent VMware applications, such as VMware Fusion, VMware Player and VMware Workstation.
About Scalix
Scalix is a collaboration platform available in two versions: one commercial and one free, community edition. Scalix comes with all features as you expect from a complete collaboration suit, including an advanced webmail and support for IMAP and POP3. For more information about Scalix, please visit Scalix’s website.
Default Configuration
By default, this appliance is configured with the following network static settings:
- IP-Address: 192.168.10.229
- Subnet: 255.255.255.0
- DNS: 192.168.10.1
- Gateway: 192.168.10.1
Usage
To log into the web-mail, simply point your browser to:
http://192.168.10.229/webmail/
To log into the administration console, point your browser to:
http://192.168.10.229/sac/
Scalix Credentials
We have created two Scalix-users. One administrator and one user. With the admin-account you can log-into both the web-mail and the administration console, while the regular user is limited to the web-mail.
Administrator
User: sxadmin-scalix@example.com
Password: sxpassword
Regular user
User: sxuser@example.com
Password: sxpassword
System Credentials
There is only one system user created on the system, namely ‘root.’
The system-user is:
User: root
Password: spassword1
Scalix Management Services Password: somerandompassword
PostgreSQL database password: thedatabasepassword
Modifying Network Settings
Updating the network settings is easy.
First, run:
system-config-network
Modify the network settings according to your needs.
Once you’ve changed your IP address, you need to modify /etc/hosts. Replace ’192.168.10.229′ with the new IP address.
