Atmail 6.1.3 was announced just a few hours ago. While you might wonder why we report so much about every release of Atmail. The reason is simple, Atmail is one of the most innovative email solutions on the market. Contrary to their larger competitors such as Exchange and Zimbra, Atmail a big bloatware that requires 4GB or RAM to handle 20 users. That is one of the main reason’s why I like Atmail.

As Atmail keeps adding new features, I really hope that they won’t fall in the bloatware-trap and add leave the light and minimalistic path they’re currently on.

AtMail just posted two announcement on their blog. The first one is the release of AtMail version 6.1.2. The two most exciting changes in this release is the introduction of Subadmin dashboard, which allows users to get an overview of their account, as well as improved integration with ArchiveVault.

The second announcement was about ArchiveVault 1.3. However, details are few in the announcement. The only thing it states is that it includes ‘a user-interface overhaul, new Admin options, improved Lucene search index for data-mining, new API feature and integration with Atmail 6‘

Atmail LogoAtMail have just released version 6.1.1 (both webmail and the server edition). One of the coolest new features in this release is that it can be easily installed on Snow Leopard Server to replace Squirrelmail, which
comes bundled with Snow Leopard. In addition to replacing the webmail component, it also integrates with the existing CalDAV server.

If you haven’t tried AtMail, I recommend that you take a look at their online demo. In my opinion, it’s one of the best stand-alone webmails on the market.

AtMail 6.0.11 Released

atmail_logoJust a mere 9 days after releasing 6.0.10, AtMail today announced 6.0.11. While I’m all for a short release cycle, this is almost too short, as it might create a create a too big burden for the sysadmins. For rigorous QA practices, 9 days (7 work days) is barely enough for validating the previous release and deploy it to the production servers.

Yet, the update is not insignificant, and includes quite a few nice improvements, such as better UTF8 support in folders for the webmail.

Yipple.com – Free webmail with a touch of Mobile Me

Yipple Splash ScreenPerhaps comparing Yipple with Mobile Me is a vast exaggeration. It does not come close to all the features of Mobile Me, but it somehow has an tiny Apple feel to it (without Apple’s attention to details though).

After playing around with the interface of Yipple for a while, I got a déjà vu feeling. It somehow felt very familiar. When switching to the ’simple’ theme it all became clear to me: Yipple is nothing but a branded version of Atmail. The only thing Yipple has done is to slap a (buggy) theme on top of Atmail and called it Yipple. What makes it even more funny is that, at least in my opinion, the default theme in Atmail (named ’simple’ in Yipple) looks much better than Yipple’s default theme (named ‘advanced’). On top of that, Atmail’s theme works just fine in both Safari and Firefox, which is something Yipple’s theme does not. In addition, Yipple did not expand their theme to the entire service. For instance, if you switch to Calendar, it uses the default Atmail template.
