Major new deal for LotusLive

IBM LogoToday eWeek reported that Panasonic is switching 150,000 users away from Microsoft’s Exchange to IBM’s LotusLive.

The announcement came in a timely fashion, just as Lotusphere 2010 is about to open it’s doors. Coincidence? I think not. It sounds like a well planned marketing move.

Review of LotusLive iNotes

iNotesA few days ago we covered IBM’s announcement of iNotes – an email addition to LotusLive.

Judging by the name, iNotes sounds like a web-based replacement for Notes. I went into this review with excitement, but unfortunately the excitement did not last very long. For $3 per month (with just 1GB of storage), I expect much more than a very basic webmail client, which is pretty much all iNotes offers. Moreover, the only thing iNotes shares with Notes is the name and the color theme.

IBM turns Notes into SaaS with LotusLive iNotes

NotesLive iNotesIBM’s Lotus Notes is a major product in the enterprise email space. According to IBM’s Press Release from January this year, Lotus Notes is used by “more than 50 percent of America’s largest 100 companies” (Note that it doesn’t say Fortune 100). I personally doubt that number, but Notes is definitely a big player. That is why today’s announcement of LotusLive iNotes is significant.

LotusLive iNotes is IBM’s answer to Google Apps and Microsoft Exchange Online.
