Round-up from this week: Open-Xchange, Liaise, Zimbra and more

It’s been a busy week. As a result, I haven’t been able to cover all the news that I would have liked to. Because of this, I thought it would be a good idea to write a combined post that outlines the news from this week that I failed to cover.

First out is Open-Xchange, who hit a major milestone this week — 15 million users. This is an increase in their user base by 80 percent in 2009. Great job guys! Yet, you still got quite a steep climb until you reach Zimbra with it’s 40 million users.

Introducing a new Virtual Appliance: Open-Xchange

Open-XchangeA few days ago we introduced a new section here at ESG named ‘downloads.’ At launch, we had already added two Virtual Appliances to this new section: Scalix and Zimbra. Today, we introduce another addition to the list: Open-Xchange.

Open-Xchange is a great piece of software. It offers a lot of features and has a snappy user interface. While it does not offer quite as many features as Zimbra, it is definitely more lightweight.

With this new addition, we have now covered the three most popular open collaboration software. If you have any feedback or would like us to add any other virtual appliances, please let us know.

Open-Xchange 6.14 is now available

Open-XchangeThe Open-Xchange team just announced the release of version 6.14. The release slogan for the new version is ‘[The] Latest Open-Xchange Makes Webmail and Social Network Integration Easy’

Some of the more noteworthy additions to this release is a new wizard for adding external accounts, a new crawler for merging contact data from Yahoo! Mail and GMX, as well as the ability to download multiple attachments in the form of one zip-file.

Open-Xchange adds support for Push and Over-The-Air Synchronization

Open-XchangeThe up-and-coming collaborating software Open-Xchange today announced a new mobility add-on to their platform. Thew new add-on is named OXtender for Business Mobility (apparently that’s the shortest name they could come up with).

For those of you who never heard about Open-Xchange before, it is an open source groupware software. In many ways, it resembles Microsoft Exchange (hence the name Open-Xchange).
